Everyone experiences difficulties throughout their college experience, but speaking up and asking for support can enable you or a fellow peer to build resilience and thrive. CARE is here for all students at the UR. Whether you are seeking support for a friend, or yourself, we encourage you to submit a CARE Referral to connect with appropriate forms of support and resources to maintain wellness and achieve goals.

CARE can be of assistance by supplying students with options for support while also aiding individuals who support the student in need.

At Rochester, the CARE Network helps to identify students in, or heading toward, distress. With timely and appropriate support, we can ensure our students have access to the resources and services they need to thrive. As members of the UR community, we rely on you—the eyes and ears of our campus—to help make sure our students are supported.

The University Counseling Center (UCC) provides a comprehensive initial assessment and an individualized treatment plan to full-time members of the University of Rochester community who pay the mandatory health fee. Based on the initial assessment, a treatment plan is developed by the clinician that addresses the client’s unique needs and concerns. This plan may include recommendations such as, but not limited to: group therapy, workshops, brief therapy, referrals to community provider for specialized treatment or longer term therapy services, Therapist Assisted On-line (TAO), case management services, psychiatry or other campus services.

Our therapists are licensed professionals and professionals-in-training from a variety of mental health disciplines. They employ many treatment approaches and draw upon a wide range of training and experiences in the field of psychotherapy.

Our consulting psychiatrists are available for psychiatric evaluations and ongoing medication management. All psychiatry appointments require a referral from a UCC therapist or UHS primary care physician/nurse practitioner. Students who choose not to follow the UHS psychiatrist’s recommendations will be referred to other sources of care. UCC case management services are available to help with referral to the appropriate provider.

Wilson Commons Student Activities (WCSA) fosters a vibrant, inclusive campus community, where ideas and activities develop and thrive.

We help students take part in creative programming and traditions, meaningful employment, experiential learning opportunities, and innovative services and facilities.

Through our partnerships and advocacy, we affirm students' educational goals and passions, the MELIORA Values, and the University mission.

Mindful Coaching to help students learn practical skills to manage stress, anxiety, difficulty focusing/sleeping to set and reach their goals with more balance and ease.

Koru Mindfulness is an evidence-based program specifically designed for college students, teaching mindfulness and meditation to manage stress and reduce anxiety. You will learn skills that help calm and focus your mind, including breathing exercises, guided imagery, body scan, and more! Through learning how to be more mindful, you may experience less stress, better sleep, and less self-judgment.

The Mindful University Project is an interdisciplinary collaboration with a mission to empower our campus community to build a culture of mindful presence and compassion.

Relax and renew retreats are half-day, silent meditation retreats for students, faculty, and staff who are interested in a more immersive meditation experience. Held in the Spurrier Gymnasium, participants will experience four hours of noble silence while engaging in a variety of contemplative practices, including:

Breath awareness meditation
Gentle yoga
Mindful walking
Dharma talks (a lesson about the practice of mindfulness in everyday life)
Retreats are co-facilitated by four Koru Mindfulness teachers. Prior meditation experience is not necessary to participate. Please dress comfortably. Retreats are free of charge and open to any student, faculty, or staff member of the University community.
